BBC hosts debates in Nigeria as part of 100 Women season

  

More than 100 conversations across the world will discuss what it means to be a “good girl” or an “ideal woman”

On 1st December, BBC 100 Women – a season dedicated to shining a light on women’s lives around the world – will bring together a series of debates from across the globe, to be broadcast live on BBC World News, BBC World Service and bbc.com.

The BBC will host debates throughout the day at Broadcasting House, London, while more than 100 conversations will happen across the globe in eight languages. In Nigeria, Morning Crossfire on Nigeria Info FM and Being Female in Nigeria will host discussions to contribute to the BBC’s live feed.

Focussing on leadership, image and relationships, the debates will ask women across the world if they feel they have to conform to what is considered the “right way” to behave. They will also be asked what they believe to be a “good girl” and who decides what is “good” – them, their family or society. The debates will also find out how women react to those pressures and expectations, and if they accept or reject them.

Fiona Crack, BBC 100 Women Editor said: “This debate is really special because we are giving women around the world the opportunity to have their voices heard on topics that matter to them. We’ll be tapping in to more than 100 conversations happening in almost 50 countries, and we’re excited to have contributions from Nigeria. The level of response we’ve had of people wanting to take part is testament to how needed these debates are.”

Also taking part in the debates are the Universities of Harvard, Yale, Tokyo, Mumsnet, the Girl Guides, Kelly Yang project, Age International, Women to Women in LA, Being Female in Nigeria, Afghanistan Women’s Organisation, the 50/50 group in Sierra Leone and the School of the Nations in Macau, amongst others.

On 1st December, between 09:30 and 13:00 GMT, the debates will look at leadership, raising questions around whether women who act like men are more likely to become leaders, and if quotas are the only way to see more women in public roles.

Between 13:00 and 16:00 GMT, the focus will be on image and whether beautiful women more likely to succeed, and how much time women spend perfecting their image – whether in reality or on social media.

From 16.00 until 19:00 GMT, relationships will be the key topic, questioning if it is expected for a woman to be subservient and whether relationships are more or less likely to fail when a woman is successful.

UK deports 500 Nigerians for illegal stay;Deportees arrive Lagos stranded!

The United Kingdom has began its course to deport over 28,000 Nigerian illegal residents of the country back to their home country Nigeria.

The first batch of 500 Nigerians arrived home soil via the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos today  Wednesday 25th.

According toreports most of the returnees who were not allowed to pick any belongings are here stranded as they dont seem to have family members back home.

The Nigerian government has frowned at the mass deportation, stating that efforts must be made by the UK government to ensure those being deported are really Nigerians, medically fit to travel and have a role to play in the country meaning they should be able to fit into Nigerian society.

The UK Immigration body UKBA has now denounced the reports of 500 being deported putting the actual number to be 50.

Next Movie star Winner Actress Tamara Eteimo speaks on the need to have sugar daddies!

Tamara Eteimo won our hearts when she won the acting  reality show Next Movie star in 2011. She has since gone on to star in big budget films like Desperate Housegirls,Finding Mercy amongst others.

She recently opened up to PUNCH on the misconception that most actresses have to have a Sugar Daddy to afford a good or flamboyant lifestyle that she says isnt necessary as Actresses still work hard in the industry for their money! 

She says.. I would not agree that all Nollywood actresses are promiscuous. People go into different relationships for different reasons. In as much as the industry doesn’t really pay that much, with time, it pays.

At the moment, there are actors that earn between N1m to N1.5 m for a role. Sometimes they call that person for three different jobs. When you get about three jobs like that in one month, why can’t you afford a car or pay your rent? I don’t need a sugar daddy in my life to maintain my car or pay bills.

Shocking news! APC candidate for 2015 Kogi Elections Abubakar Audu is dead!

Sahara reporters are saying the APC candidate in today's 2015 Kogi Governorship elections Abubakar Audu has died today Election results declaration day shortly after hearing the results which have now been declared inconclusive..

Sahara reporters say  "The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi state, Mr. Abubakar Audu is dead. Mr. Audu died of undisclosed medical reasons shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared his victory at the elections inconclusive. Saharareporters could not determine the cause of Mr. Audu's death."

SaharaReporters were right afterall! Abubakar Audu is indeed dead!the APC candidate for the 2015 Kogi Gubernatorial elections reportedly died from a heart attack today after hearing the inconclusive results. 

He was aged 68!

The Kogi Stage Elections held by Independent National Electoral commission accross the state yesterday has been declared Inconclusive!

Emmanuel Kucha, the returning officer of the election, announced the development at the INEC headquarters in the state, saying the margin between the two leading candidates is less than the number of the cancelled votes. Kucha gave the number of cancelled votes as 49,953 and the margin between Abubakar Audu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Idris Wada, the incumbent governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP), as 41,353. Audu secured 240,867 votes, while Idris polled 199,514 votes. 

The electoral body INEC is  to conduct supplementary elections at a date to be announced shortly
